Have you wondered how it would feel to have snow in your mouth? If our local halo-halo has a foreign relative out there? What it

Then this post may answer your curiosities. The Korean dessert that will be featured on this entry is called bingsu, and luckily I have found a place where you can indulge in this yummy treat.

Bingsu or bingsoo (빙수) is a very popular and elaborate snack/dessert in Korea, especially during the summer season. This snack is composed of ice shavings and various ingredients such as sweetened condensed milk, fruit syrups, various fruits such as strawberries, kiwifruit, and bananas, small pieces of tteok (rice cake), chewy jelly bits, and cereal flakes. It is often topped with ice cream or frozen yogurt, a treat people of all ages will surely enjoy.

13th Street Espresso ( a not so Korean take name ) is a cafe that sells your caffeine finds and more, the branch I went to was located on the second floor of the Festive Walk in Megaworld in Mandurriao, Iloilo city, their second branch will be for a next entry,

I got to try two of their bingsoos, one is the choco-oreo flavor, and the other one is the strawberry flavored.

choco oreo bingsoo

The choco-oreo bingsu is composed of the base -chocolate shaved ice, topped crushed oreos on the sides, paired with two peanut pepero sticks, whipped cream, two wafer bars, and lastly an Oreo cookie. It's one chocolate-y treat in one bowl, so if you are in to chocolate and Oreo in one, this bingsu variant is for you.

The melt in your mouth goodness is pure bliss for the palette, balanced with the sweetness of the chocolate flavored shaved ice and the crushed Oreos add texture to the dessert.

Strawberry bingsu

Next, I tried their strawberry bingsu which is my personal favorite. It consists of a strawberry flavored shaved ice base, on the sides you can find sliced strawberries ( the aroma of the strawberries adds to the form factor of the dessert ) and topped with a scoop of strawberry ice cream. The natural fruity taste of the sliced strawberries complements well with the sweet flavor of the shaved ice and scoop of ice cream. Overall it is a fruit based dessert, healthy and flavorful at the same time.

Having to try out two of their bingsoos, I can say that 13th Street Espresso offers one of the most authentic bingsoos in the city. They are the closest when you compare it to bingsoos in Korean dramas or the ones in Manila.

A price tag of 195 pesos for each bowl of bingsu that ideally serves two, it is a bang for the buck with it's legit form factor and taste. Indeed, this place has already earned my loyalty when it comes to my bingsu cravings.

If you want to feel how snow in the mouth tastes like then head over to any 13th Street Espresso branch and try it out for yourself, who knows, it may be the place where you meet your oppa.
