Catchy lyrics, flashy dance moves, and oppa's irresistible smile; the Korean wave better known as hallyu is taking the world by storm. In this blog entry, I won't be talking about how it came to be because it would be a lengthy discussion reserved for another time. In this post, I will talk about the things you know what is it like to be in the fandom, things new fans often times do, and how to interact with fellow fans.

First Time

The first time I heard a K-Pop I was like just like every non-Korean listener, lost in the lyrics. My first K-POP song was 2NE1's Fire and my immediate impression was "what are they saying?" it took a couple more replays but the language difference did not stop me from appreciating these kind of songs, even though I could barely understand the words they utter, their music videos are pure eye-candy. Stunning visuals, top of the line production design, and in sync movements - everything seems to just fall in place. The easy to follow dance steps (most of them) and the catchy lyrics will give you the last song syndrome for weeks. You are bound to fall hook, line, and sinker for these groups.

New groups making their debuts each week, it's impossible to keep track of who is who, but being a fan for almost six years now, many of the groups are come and go cases, you see them on stage now, the next thing is news have emerged that they have already disbanded. However there are some groups the withstand the test of time, exceeding the number of years in their contracts.

If there is one thing I learned about these groups, is to appreciate their talents because they have worked their bodies off just to get up on that stage.

Next week, we'll tackle the life of being a K-pop fan here in the Philippines and how it works and things you should do and should not do in the fandom :D

Here's Fire by 2NE1
